Hi Martin. Since I couldn't find your email, I'll have to write here.

Seeing as you sometimes comment on events in Southeast Asia, you must be aware of how extremely "plastic" the situation is right now in Malaysia, now with Anwar being arrested by the government cowards. Malaysia is now becoming just like Zimbabwe or Burma at this rate. I was wondering what are your views on this?

Hi there,

I have read and followed your blog for few months now and was impressed with your wide knowledge of BNA1981.

I'm holder of both Malaysian and British Overseas passport and currently living in UK with my wife who has BNO passport.

I would like to know that if I become a stateless person by renouncing my Malaysian citizenship, could I still register myself as a full British citizen?

Kindly provide me with guidance and advice regarding my problem.

Thank you

Hi all,
I never knew about this forum before, and its really nice to read comments about "BNO Status difficulties" many ppl have even today.
here i want to share some techniques which i learn my self from my own past experience and i sugget you all BNO holders to follow them when travel to EU.
About me, i am a BNO passport holder with right of abode in HK. My request for change of status from BNO to UK Citizen was refused by Home Office in 2004. At present i live in UK- without right of aboard, and enjoying all facilities / status same as of EU Citizen.
Following are important for UK and i believe for other parts of EU, should apply the same.
1- AT UK AIRPORT ALWAYS PRESENT YOUR PASSPORT AT EU COUNTER, DO NOT GO TO VISITOR/NON- EU QUEUE AS YOU NEED TO AVOID IMMIGRATION STAMP ON UR PASSPORT.
2-IF UR PASSPORT IS NOT STAMPED U ARE LUCY, NOW JUST STAY IN UK AS A CITIZEN, GO TO JOBCENTRE AND APPLY FOR N.I.N PRESENTING UR UN-STAMPED UK PASSPORT SO THAT YOU CAN START WORKING.
3-ONCE U GET YOUR NATIONAL INSURANCE NO (NIN) REGISTER WITH ANY EMPLOYMENT AGENCY FOR THE JOB, OFCOURSE USE YOUR SAME BNO PASSPORT AS A PROOF OF UR IDENTITY.
4-REGISTER YOUR VOTING RIGHT SIMPLY BY SUBMITTING ONE-PAGE DOCUMENT STATING THAT U ARE A BRITISH NATIONAL.
5-REMEMBER THAT IN UK UR FULL DRIVING LISCENCE IS UR MAIN IDENTITY DOCUMENT. YOU CAN EXCHANGE UR HONG KONG DRIVING LISCENCE WITH FULL UK ONE FREE OF COST, SO DONT FORGET TO BRING UR HK LISCENCE TO UK.
6-THATS ALL, ONE MORE LAST THING WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT, WHEN U SHOW UR PASSPORT TO VARIOUS GOVT DEPARTMENTS IN UK, OR UR EMPLOYER, OR TO THE EMPLOYMENT AGENTS, DO NOT SAY THAT IT IS A BNO PASSPORT, JUST SAY THAT U ARE BRITISH AND HAVE A BRITISH PASSPORT. (MOST OF THE GOVT/PVT BODIES DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BNO AND UK CITIZEN PASSPORT)
7-NOW IF UR PASSPORT IS STAMPED BY THE PASSPORT OFFICIALS, STILL DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT, SOON YOU WILL BE ENJOYING FULL RIGHTS IN THE UK, JUST GO TO NEAREST POLICE STATION AND SUBMIT A REPORT LOST OF BNO PASSPORT. TAKE THE COPY OF LOST PASSPORT REPORT APPLY FOR THE NEW BRITISH PASSPORT ALONWITH THEIR FREE OF GBP:78. IN THREE WEEKS YOU WILL GET YOUR NEW BNO PASSPORT WITH NO RESTRICTION-STAMP ON IT, NOW FOLLOW THE STEPS (2--5) ABOVE.

request: I came to know that in UK some people has already claimed their British Citizen Passport through Court of Law by filing a case against Home Office, especially some one like me whose request was turned down by home office in tha past, i will appreciate if some one can guide me about the legal procedures
Thank You

I hear that Gordon Brown is coming to HK soon. Why don't we organise a protest about the status of BNOs and let him know what HK people think?

I am a Chinese Canadian with BNO passport. Glad to surf the web to know you. One thing in common is our shared values - democrazy, rule of law and human rights.
